Hello Sailor…
I am simply born in the wrong era. I love anything from times forgot, well I say times forgot this is rather sore subject for me which raises all kinds of passionate opinions that may come across as judgemental or Nazish.
Let me explain - I love anything pre 1964. The music, culture, morals, beliefs, traditions, fashion, hair styling, film, interior and the list continues. Sadly we find ourselves in a time where society or media depicts what we find enjoyable.
In October I went to a ‘Vintage event’, it was a Rock n Roll night in London, ‘Marvellous!’ I thought but was sorely disappointed upon arrival as it was filled with the Shoreditch ‘dickhead’ and a ton of ‘Mad Men’ enthusiast. Now please don’t get me wrong I love Mad Men it is a grand ol’ show however when you have a group of girls wander in looking like Joan Holloway all donning the same do and same black kohl pencil flicks and that one vintage couture dress that they put themselves in debt for well you too would be annoyed when trying to jive to Jack Rabbit Slim. There were about 10 bands playing all very different in their own ways and the ticket price was just under £20 – not bad for a night out however what was missing form this ‘Rock n Roll’ event was the atmosphere that you get when spending time with people who actually love the three piece acoustic sounds of Rockabilly, the bourbon soaked harmonica bends of Blues and Swampabilly, the harmony of Jivers. I have been to a number of gigs; I wouldn’t be so audacious to say I am an expert however I know what makes a good atmosphere. Just because you wear a quiff, bandana and have tattoos does not making you rockin!
So as you can see I share my views freely, I was always raised to do so. I will endeavour to keep this new blog to sharing my pictures from my trips and new discoveries, although I wouldn’t be me without the odd rant.
So if you love vintage style photography and you want to discover new music and stores or talents have a little read.
Also feel free to ask me anything…..
